有时候，学生会花过多的篇幅来描述自己的某一门课、一个课外志愿活动的组织或者是自己参加实习的公司。但是，课程、组织和公司本身的内容可能与学生无关。

The selection committee will be more interested in how these experiences influenced YOUR perspective, YOUR intellectual development and motivated YOU to pursue further education。

筛选过程关注的更多的是这些经历对你的影响。

YOU should be the main focus of the personal statement.

招生老师很清楚，越是好的项目，可能越challenging和stressful，相应的学习困难会更大。如果没有足够的兴趣支撑，学生很难学好。

The committee will be looking for evidence that you are truly motivated and excited about what you want to study since such students make more positive peers and are more likely to successfully complete the program. 

招生老师需要看到你发自内心的兴趣和热情。

比如，学生可以说this activity touched the deepest point of my heart and let me see what I truly want.

比如，成绩单中某一门课的分数非常低，非常显眼，尤其还是近一两年的某一门课程或者与所学专业相关的课程。这种情况你必须要对此进行解释。

你的解释一定要concise and focused on assuring the committee that whatever the problem was，并且要保证此类情况不会再发生，也不会影响你未来的学习。

Personal statement要求你在比较简短的篇幅描述你几年生活的所有经历，如何有效的使用英文来表达自己尤其重要。另外，牢记不要犯语法错误。

This shows your level of writing skills. Writing也是招生老师对你的评估标准之一。

Better writing can give the committee better impression and shows your maturity.

很多中国学生会在personal statement中使用被动语态，但是以后请你将“I”作为主语，并避免“allowed”、“gave”这种被动词。
